VetSnaps

Garret Turley, pictured here with Sarah O’Grady, is from Newry in Northern Ireland. He graduated from Cambridge and co-founded Pet Doctors with a vet school friend who has remained a friend throughout.

He was part of the team that sold Pet Doctors to CVS (UK) Limited in 2010.

Whilst at Pet Doctors he obtained a MBA and a MA in Art History and is now a partner at Bridges Ventures the London based fund managers who are committed to sustainable and impact investing.

Garret has been instrumental in a new venture at Bridges, ‘The Vet’ which is now appearing in various UK regions with an ethos based around ‘no appointments’ and ‘low cost – full-suite’ service.

Having been in private equity for six years and veterinary practice for almost twenty before exiting Pet Doctors, Garret is ideally placed to compare life as a venture capitalist with that of a medical professional.

‘I sometimes miss the sense of camaraderie and emotional recognition that you get within the vet industry. It’s one of the nicest sectors to work in, with good people, who have a great deal of integrity and know how to have fun.’

He regrets the shift away from clinical complexity in first opinion practice and believes that newly qualified vets will face a new challenge as a gap between expectation and reality widens.

He is a keen cyclist but clearly needs to eat less pies. He looks forward to seeing how the veterinary world moves on in the next decade as consolidation across the UK & Europe increases.
