VetSnaps

Stewart Halperin, pictured here with Keith Dickinson, has a six site veterinary group in west London and a branch in the West Country. He has a scooter and uses it to travel between his locations in the capital. This may explain why he, most interestingly, recently attended a 10 day silent meditation retreat. In his own words the hardest thing he has ever done.

Stewart loves veterinary practice and has done since as a boy of sixteen when, seeing practice, he first became addicted to the smell of trigene and hibiscrub.

He is a great advocate of training and motivation for staff, recognising that a fully effective team of vets, nurses and lay staff is essential for any business to grow successfully.

He meditates daily and has finally learned to ‘let go’ after, in his own words, attending every personal development and business course he could find.

Stewart has some very interesting views on the future of the profession most notably corporatisation which he sees as likely to improve business standards but also Brexit which he feels will eventually lead to a severe shortage of vets and thus an increasing dependence on locums creating a huge hike in fees and an eventual heavy burden on the vet bill.

On the business front Stewart has written a book called ‘How to Run a Successful Veterinary Practice’ (we’ll be the judge of that) and launched Carefreecredit the UK’s largest provider of veterinary patient finance.

Stewart also believes in paying properly for first class professional advice particularly in these times of litigation, merger and corporatisation.
